Very poor AC adaptor design, repeatedly breaks !! June 13, 2010 Patrick Corley (Dublin, Ireland) I have always favoured Compaq Laptops. However, one silly design flaw can be really offputting. The AC / DC adaptor for this series of laptops keeps breaking because there is too much mechanical stress on the point where it plugs into the laptop. It plugs in so that the powercord of in line with the point, so that it keeps breaking. Most other laptop DC adaptors have an L shaped configuration, so that the stress dosent load on the insert point. I have been through 3 adaptors already; Ultimatly had to get out the soldering iron, remake the insert into an L shape, and seal with epoxy putty. I shouldnt have to do this though.....
When buying your next laptop, try to make sure the power adaptor is a L shaped insert, rather than straight line in.
compaqs are bad March 17, 2010 R. Lapeer Had a CQ60 computer for a little over a year and the battery gets to 40% and the computer dies. Warranty expired 2 weeks ago and HP can't help me. I went online to buy a new battery and surprise, everyone says the battery sucks. My previous Compaq, the AC adapter died after 2 weeks and HP sent a replacement. My brother's Compaq, the battery died after a year and he bought a new one after his wireless card died too. This is the last Compaq I buy ever.
You Get What You Pay For February 4, 2010 K. Godfrey 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this laptop because it was cheap($350) and I figured the quality would be decent because it was an HP/Compaq. My poor rating is based on several factors 1. The initial quality of the laptop, and 2. Dealing with HP's tech support. Within the 1st 6 months of owning this pc, I began having problems with my power adaptor. The cable wasn't fitting snugly into the side port, so the battery wasn't charging. I called HP and they gave me instructions on sending the laptop to their repair facility. They informed me that the process would take more than a week, so I wasn't too happy about that, but it had to be done. I sent off the laptop, they "fixed" it and sent it back.
Upon powering up my laptop, I quickly realized that they did not fix the problem. I still had the same issue, and they must have either not fixed it and sent it back, or did not test their repair. So, I called again, went through the same process and sent it back. On the 2nd attempt, the issue was "fixed", but I am still having intermittent problems. HP had my laptop for almost 3 weeks, and I am still not happy with their results. I use this computer for work and can no longer afford to keep sending it off and waiting for 7-10 for them to try and fix the issue.
I called a friend who works for HP and she told me that the "Compaq" label is used on cheap computers that are usually sold to Asian markets. The only thing I was happy with regarding this laptop is the price, but in retrospect, I would have rather paid a little more and bought a different brand. I will never buy anything from HP again!
not bad January 25, 2010 Sheldon Williams (T&T W. I.) I would have given this a five but it is suppose to be a new item and it came with scrathes, not a bad buy.
Perfect for household use December 15, 2009 Nancy J. Toth (Talking Rock Ga) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
My first laptop, and I couldn't be more pleased.Fast downloads and large screen are two features that I like.I use the AC cord ,so the short battery life (2hrs) isn't a factor for me.Good price, great value for the money!Full size keyboard as well.
